CHICAGO (WLS) -- Police are searching for the person who shot at a semi truck on the Dan Ryan Expressway early Tuesday morning.

A semi was heading northbound on the Dan Ryan when police said another vehicle pulled up alongside the truck and opened fire near Roosevelt Road around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

"I was coming down the bridge. A gold Impala pulled up on my driver side, slammed on the brakes, got behind me and then came up on the passenger side and started shooting," said Matt Mackey, who works for a private freight company out of Dayton, Ohio.

Mackey was not hurt, but the hood of the semi was riddled with bullets. He pulled over on the outbound Kennedy near Lake Street. The truck was leaking fluid.

Illinois State Police shut down all lanes of the outbound Kennedy near where the truck pulled over to search for evidence. Illinois Department of Transportation crews towed the truck from the scene around 6 a.m. Tuesday and re-opened all lanes.

Authorities said the shooter took off northbound on the Kennedy.

Investigators are looking into the cause of the shooting. No one is in custody.
