2 arrested after armed carjacking leads to Cragin crash, shots fired on Northwest Side
CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago police have arrested two people accused of an armed carjacking on the city's Northwest Side that ended in a multi-car crash.
A 34-year-old ride-sharing service driver had just dropped off a passenger late Saturday, when two males approached him in the 6300 block of West Belmont Avenue and took his 2015 Toyota Sienna at gunpoint.
Surveillance cameras from a nearby gas station captured the moment the Sienna crashed minutes later into two unoccupied parked cars in the 2400 block of North Lamon Avenue, police said.
Mohmed Hisam, the gas station attendant, said within minutes after the crash, police swarmed the intersection of Fullerton and Lamon.
"I heard a loud a noise, like a crash, rolling something and that's when I saw all the police cars," gas station attendant Mohmed Hisam said.

"Someone went to run and I think, I could tell the police caught him," Hisam explained.
Chicago police said two people are under arrest in the incident, alleging the suspects fired shots but didn't injure anyone. Police said it was not immediately clear whom the person was shooting at.
Two other people entered the stolen Toyota Sienna before it crashed, according to police.
Police said the van's two rear seat passengers are considered witnesses, but the two carjacking suspects will face charges.
Two people who were in the van were taken to the Illinois Masonic Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
No one was inside of the parked vehicles that were hit, but some cars received extensive damage.
One resident told ABC7 his car was parked on the street but it ended up on the sidewalk after the crash, saying his car is "totaled."
Thomas Murray's vehicle was also totaled in the crash. He said he's grateful no one was injured.
"I'm just grateful that I'm safe and the people who live here are safe," Murray said." "If this would have been on a weekday innocent kids would have been hurt."
The passenger being dropped off and the ride-share driver were not involved in the accident, police said.
