South Chicago Velodrome facing closure

CHICAGO -- Members of the Chicago cycling community are trying to keep the South Chicago Velodrome at 86th and Burley from closing.

The owners of the property set an April first deadline to secure funding and new contracts for the facility. The South Chicago Velodrome Association needs to raise more than $100,000.

The velodrome was built by Chicago Velo Campus in 2011 and introduced track-cycling to hundreds of at-risk youth.

There are 27 velodromes in the U.S.
