CHICAGO (WLS) -- On a beautiful Saturday, many parents told their kids to go fly a kite, and for good reason.

A nice crowd gathered at Montrose Harbor in the city's Lincoln Park neighborhood for the 17th annual Chicago Kids and Kites Festival.

The city of Chicago provided free kite kits for kids to build and decorate their own kites.

A popular highlight is the pinata-like kite filled with candy that drops from the sky.
