CHICAGO (WLS) -- Utility companies in Illinois are teaming up for the first time to warn customers a spring scam is starting to heat up.

Those scam artists go door-to-door claiming they're utility workers. They ask questions about service, trying to get the personal information of customers. And the most difficult thing is these scam artists look like the real deal.

"I don't know where these people come from and how they are getting this information but I have seen them. They actually have ComEd's logo. They have everything. I don't know how they're getting it. But I'm telling you, they have it," said Wanda Hopkins, South Austin Coalition.

The utilities say you should never make payments to anyone at your door and never provide your personal information to anyone in person.
