Human testing is about to begin on a promising vaccine that may potentially reverse symptoms of type 1 diabetes.

The vaccine- known as BCG has shown it can reverse those symptoms in mice and a small phase 1 trial in about 100 humans.

The new trial will last five years and focuses on people from 18 to 60 years old.

BCG is already approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as a vaccine for tuberculosis and as a bladder cancer treatment.
