North Lawndale mom charged in accidental shooting of son, 8
Micquelyn Biles was charged in the accidental shooting of her son, 8, after police said he found a gun in their North Lawndale home.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A Chicago mother was charged in the accidental shooting of her 8-year-old son. Police said Micquelyn Biles, 31, lied to them about knowing there was a handgun in her home.

Investigators said Biles, a convicted felon, should not have had a gun in her North Lawndale home.

Her son and another boy, both 8, found the weapon inside her apartment in the 3700-block of West 13th Street Tuesday morning and started playing with it.

Police said the gun accidentally fired once, hitting Biles' son in the stomach. A family member took him to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he is listed in good condition.

Biles was arrested and charged with unlawful use of a weapon and child endangerment. She is due in bond court on Thursday.

Biles pleaded guilty to felony forgery charges in 2003. She was sentenced to 18 months of probation.

Investigators said the gun belonged to Biles' boyfriend. There are currently no charges filed against him.

The shooting remains under investigation.
