City auctioning off unneeded items to raise revenue

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago is holding an auction of public surplus items, from old calculators to solar panels to trucks and more, to raise revenue for the city.

A city spokesperson said that by selling items the city no longer uses, officials expect to bring an estimated $2 million in revenue in 2016.

Since January of 2014, the city has brought in nearly $4 million in revenue from the sale of uneeded items, and over the last four years revenue has totaled more than $14 million.
