CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Illinois Lottery reportedly lost money last year for the first time in six years.

That meant about $125 million less for state programming, including money for education efforts.

Lottery officials attribute the drop to prize payout ratio changes, which cost about $77 million.

The lottery loss comes after the state hired a private manager to help increase the sales and profits.
