Friday Flyover: Tinley Park High School

TINLEY PARK, Ill. (WLS) -- This week, we feature Tinley Park High School on ABC7's Friday Flyover, celebrating high school sports!

The Tinley Park High School Band finished in 1st Place in Class AA in the Illinois SuperState Concert Band Festival. The band is directed by Mr. Vince Aiello.

The Titan Football Team won their homecoming game last week against Argo High School with a score of 62-0.

The Class of 2019 started high school this year with the 1 to 1 learning format, which has eliminated most textbooks so that students can learn on iPad-minis. Across the entire district, they are very excited about this learning format.

35 students at Tinley Park High School were named AP Scholars by the College Board. 4 earned AP Scholars with Honor, 13 earned Honors with Distinction and 2 earned the highest title of AP National AP Scholar.

Students at Tinley Park High School are well-rounded and diverse. Not only do they challenge themselves academically, but...

They are leaders: One student planned a district-wide teen leadership summit last winter, and two others created a program to transition our feeder grade school students to the high school environment.

They are athletes: We provide a wide-range of athletics for our students. Our cheerleaders as well as our dance team were state qualifiers last year. Two of our wrestlers were all-state.

They participate in fundraisers such as St. Baldrick's, the American Cancer Society, and Special Olympics to name just a few.

They contribute to clothing and canned good drives and hold blood drives annually.

They volunteer for events such as anti-bullying walks, breakfasts for veterans, and the Feed My Starving Children Foundation.

Tinley Park High School opened in 1961 with a student enrollment of 685 and 31 staff members. Enrollment for this 2015-16 school year is 1,222.

The first graduating class was in June 1964. Many generations of families continue to attend and raise their families in the community.

Tinley Park is one of four high schools in District 228. District-wide enrollment for this 2015-16 school year is 5,184.

School colors are scarlet and gold.
