Record travel expected for July 4 weekend
A record number of travelers traveled roadways during the July 4th weekend, due in part to record-low gas prices.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A record 43 million Americans were expected to travel this Fourth of July holiday weekend.

An overwhelming majority of those travelers, more than 84 percent, will be driving, putting some 36 million people on the roads.

One of the main reasons so many are driving is cheap gas, the lowest in years.

Drivers in the Chicago area are filling up for $0.47 a gallon less than Fourth of July weekend last year.
