Students raise money to aid Army veteran

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (WLS) -- Some very giving students in the suburbs raised money to help build a home for an Army veteran.

Army Specialist Tony Chobanov was presented with a check today at John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights.

District 214 students spent more than a month raising $16,000 to help Chobanov with his home. The high school district serves Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Des Plaines, Elk Grove, Mount Prospect, Prospect Heights, Rolling Meadows and Wheeling.

Chobanov served two tours of combat duty in Afghanistan and Iraq and has been diagnosed with PTSD and a traumatic brain injury.
