Police and the FBI said the pursuit started around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 1700-block of West 65th Street in the city's West Englewood neighborhood, after officers spotted a vehicle fitting the description of one wanted in a homicide committed in west suburban Brookfield.
The chase ended near West 87th Street and South Ashland Avenue in the city's Auburn Gresham neighborhood, with a wreck involving at least three vehicles.
A 4-year-old boy and his mother were taken to Christ in good condition. Another female was treated and released from Little Company of Mary Hospital. Another driver and passenger involved in the crash refused treatment at the scene, police said.
Jermaine Douglas, 25, of the 7100-block of South Whipple Street, was in the offending vehicle.
Police said he was taken into custody and a gun was recovered at the scene. He was then transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition. Police did not release a mug shot.
Details on the homicide Douglas was wanted for have not yet been released.
Douglas was charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, being an armed habitual criminal and aggravated fleeing from police at speeds more than 21 mph over the speed limit, all felonies. He was also cited for disregarding a stop sign, disregarding a traffic control light and driving the wrong way on a one-way street, police said.
He was due in bond court Wednesday.
