Police responded around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday to a report of a medical emergency or possible death at a home in the 200-block of Lido Trail. When officers arrived, authorities said they found Madonia in the kitchen with blood on his hands.
He was taken into custody at that time.
Officers found Madonia's wife, 58-year-old Nancy Madonia, upstairs. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said the couple had gotten into an argument at some point that morning. The fight allegedly turned physical, resulting in Nancy Madonia's death. Carlo Madonia is accused of strangling her.
"Domestic violence continues to be a very serious problem. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, nearly twenty people per minute are physically abused by a spouse or intimate partner in the United States. This equates to more than 10 million victims of domestic violence every year. I extend my sincerest condolences to Nancy's family and friends as they try to come to terms with this senseless loss of life," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert B. Berlin said.
