Conner and Merritt appeared in bond court Thursday, where they were ordered to remain in custody until trial.
"It's a relief, the job the state's attorney did today," said 19th Ward Ald. Matt O'Shea. "I'd like to thank Judge Beech for ordering these two individuals, these dangerous individuals, to remain in custody."

"It felt good to look at them and look them in the eyes and let them know someone is going to stand up to them," Pettiford said.
Jeff's wife Michelle Pettiford and her daughter were returning home when two men with guns rushed into their yard and demanded the car keys. They pushed her to the ground and when Jeff Pettiford responded to his wife's scream, a suspect pointed a gun at him and racked the slide of the gun.
Prosecutors said this video, along with videos from the CTA, a gas station and police camera connect Conner and Merritt to the crime. Conner is on parole for a previous gun charge.
The couple's second car was also stolen days later without confrontation. Conner and Merritt are not charged with that crime.
The pair are due back in court for the carjacking case on Nov. 21.
