CHICAGO (WLS) -- An annual Black History Month event was held Thursday here at ABC7.

Business and community leaders were treated to lunch and were inspired by some historical speeches by African American leaders re-created by a very talented speaker.

"If you want to solve the problems of violence and drugs on our streets, it begins with us teaching children to value life," said 10-year-old Christian Jackson.

Jackson is an honor student at Edgar Allan Poe Classical school.

This is the 13th year ABC7 has hosted the event.
