A 36-year-old woman was driving a sedan westbound on 87th Street when she tried to make a left turn onto Western Avenue, police said. Another driver, identified only as male, was driving an SUV eastbound on 87th Street and struck the woman's sedan on the passenger side, police said.

Police said the sedan then spun into two other vehicles, which were stopped at a traffic light, facing northbound on Western Avenue. The sedan then struck a fire hydrant before stopping. The SUV's driver fled the scene.

A passenger in the sedan, a 37-year-old woman, suffered blunt-force trauma to her head and transported to Christ Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified her as Tilisha Anderson.

The sedan's driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition.

No citations were issued and Major Accidents are investigating.
