It happened around 11 a.m. in the 1400 block of West Farwell Avenue in an apartment building. Multiple people were treated on the scene, and two police officers were transported to a local hospital.
"Suddenly, I just heard somebody outside, shouting to get out: 'Get out. There's a fire,'" said building resident Michelle Ludwig.
Residents were quickly alerted to a fire erupting out of a third floor unit of the building. The damage left behind is significant.

"They told us, pretty much, that the building is definitely not going to be live-able for quite some time," said resident Christopher Quidlat.
Christopher Quidlat was not home at the time of the fire, but his partner and friend were. He said they were just barely able to escape.
"He heard some glass breaking so when he found out there was a fire, he had to wake up my partner and my other friend so they were able to get out just in time," Quidlat said.
Police officers who responded the scene helped a woman get out of the building. That woman and two officers were taken to the hospital for possible smoke inhalation. They're all expected to be OK.
Chicago firefighters were also seen carrying someone's pet from the building. Meanwhile, residents are left wondering what's next.
"You don't really know. You never really think about this before, because you never think that you'll be affected at all, but you know, I think we just have to do our best to see," Quidlat said.
Most importantly, it appears as though everyone escaped the fire without significant injury. But Quidlat said he doesn't expect to be living there for quite some time.
