Illinois State Police investigating officer-involved shooting in Chicago Heights

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. (WLS) -- An officer-involved shooting in Chicago Heights is under investigation, Illinois State Police said.

Illinois State Police said an officer-involved shooting occurred in the 1600 block of Portland Ave. Saturday at around 9:30 p.m.

ISP is investigating officers' use of force in the shooting.

The agency's public integrity task force was asked to conduct the investigation by the Chicago Heights Police Department, an ISP spokesperson said.

Illinois State Police aren't releasing any other details about the shooting or the investigation.

Chicago Heights Police Chief Thomas Rogers released a statement about the officer-involved shooting Sunday.

"As part of standard protocol in Illinois whenever a police officer-involved shooting occurs, an investigation is currently underway by the Illinois State Police Public Integrity Unit regarding an incident involving a Chicago Heights Police officer on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 2130 hours. The Illinois State Police will report on their investigation's findings," Rogers said. "Meanwhile, the Chicago Heights Police Department is dedicated to the safety and protection of the citizens in Chicago Heights and holds its officers to the highest standards of law enforcement professionalism."
