CHICAGO (WLS) -- A neighborhood is on edge after police said a man visiting from Wisconsin was shot and killed during a home invasion while staying with relatives in Rogers Park on Tuesday.

"I don't appreciate all that noise, and having to wake up to gunshots and stuff," said Rogers Park resident Kiana Williams.

The Cook County Medical Examiner identified the victim as 45-year old Quentin Pruett of Madison. Chicago police said Pruett was inside a ground floor unit at an apartment building in the 7600 block of North Sheridan Road when shots rang out.

Others in the home at the time said it happened around 3:30 a.m. when someone knocked on the back door, pushed it open and started firing. Witnesses said Pruett, who was standing in the living room, was hit several times and died at the scene.

They called 911 as the shooter ran away into the alley. Some people living in the area said this isn't the first time there have been problems at the apartment building.

"It's a little concerning. Safety is definitely a big concern for us. Our local government officials should be doing more to us safe especially the people who live in this building," said Anthony Tausig with the Greenview Tenants Association. "I can't imagine what they're having to deal with."

Some residents said they've made multiple complaints to the authorities about the condition of the property located on the city's Far North Side. A spokesperson for 49th Ward Alderwoman Maria Hadden said her office is aware of neighbors' concerns.

"We have been working closely with the Department of Law, the Department of Buildings, and the police department to make sure the building owner addresses the concerns and improves the safety and security of his building," said Leslie Perkins, Hadden's chief of staff.

As the Pruett family grieves, police have been continuing their investigation into the attack, but so far, no arrests have been made and no one is in custody.
