City rolling out new smart LED streetlights in South Shore

Tuesday, September 19, 2017
CHICAGO (WLS) -- Part of Chicago's South Shore neighborhood will be getting new street lights Tuesday.

It's part of the Chicago Smart Lighting Program that will overhaul 85 percent of street lights across the city.

The new LED lights will cut operating costs by up to 75 percent. They will also cast a white light instead of yellow.

The first four blocks to get the new lights will be on South Chicago Avenue from 79th Street to 83rd streets.

Chicago Department of Transportation Rebekah Scheinfeld joined ABC7 to talk about the street lighting program.
