Illinois State Police said the crash occurred at about 1:15 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-94 at Taylor Street as a passenger vehicle struck a semi-trailer, which then both struck a concrete median barrier.

The driver of the vehicle was fully ejected from the crash and a passenger was partially ejected, police said. Both were transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The truck driver was not injured.

Police had blocked the outbound lanes at Roosevelt while they investigated Lanes were back open at 7 a.m.
