With Hurricane Harvey wreaking havoc on Houston, ABC 7 Chicago partnered with the American Red Cross of Chicago and Northern Illinois for ABC 7'S DAY OF GIVING, a commitment inviting Chicagoans to support recovery efforts for communities affected by the devastating storm, on Thursday, Aug. 31, from 5 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on ABC 7.

"ABC 7 Chicago wanted to do something to help people in Houston and Southeast Texas who are enduring great hardship in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. This has become personal for ABC 7 because many colleagues and friends at our sister station, KTRK-TV, have been profoundly affected. We appreciate the generosity of all Chicagoans and the work of the American Red Cross," ABC 7 President and General Manager John Idler said.

"Hurricane Harvey is a storm, unlike anything to ever hit the state of Texas," said Celena Roldan, CEO of the Chicago and Northern IL Red Cross. "The relief effort will be substantial and lengthy, so the American Red Cross, is so grateful for the generosity and support of our partners at ABC 7. The generosity of ABC viewers enables the Red Cross to provide disaster relief to the people of Texas and Louisiana who are in desperate need."
