ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (WLS) -- Teams from around the Midwest are putting their rowing skills to the test as the Chicago International Dragon Boat Festival returns to Arlington Heights on July 29, 2017. More than 30 dragon boat teams will take part at Flentie Park as crowds cheer them to the finish line. The event immerses visitors in the culture and spirit of dragon boat racing, which dates back 2,500 years to ancient China. Beyond the water competition, festival-goers can enjoy festival staples such as the Vendor Village, Kids Zone and Food Truck Bazaar. Ascene Chicago is presenting the Asian Cultural Village with multicultural performances, musical acts, workshops and demonstrations throughout the day. Aaron Soroka, COO for GWN Dragon Boat, joined ABC 7 live from Arlington Heights to talk about the festival.
