A 17-year-old boy has been charged with aggravated assault after the Lake County Sheriff's Office said he wore a mask and pointed a replica rifle at people in the north suburbs Saturday.

Deputies responded to the area of Route 83 and Route 53 in Long Grove at about 3:20 p.m. after reports of a person armed with a gun. A 911 caller reported to police a passenger inside a Honda Accord traveling north on Route 83 was armed with a rifle and was pointing it at him and other vehicles.

Deputies notified Mundelein police, who located and stopped the vehicle as it was entering Mundelein in the area of East Orchard Street and Route 45.

After stopping the vehicle, police determined that the rifle was a replica M-16 and arrested a 17-year-old Mundelein boy. The teen was transported to the Hulse Juvenile Detention Facility. He was petitioned to juvenile court on three counts of aggravated assault, police said.
