Newsviews: Food insecurity among the disabled

CHICAGO (WLS) -- When you think about the challenges facing people with disabilities, here's one you may not consider.

Thirty one percent of households in the Chicago area with a working age member who has a disability are food insecure. That's according to a first-of-its-kind report.

Food insecure means those folks don't have consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life compare that to eight percent for households where there's no one with a disability.

Now that we know how large this problem is, how do we address it? And are the resources available to get help to those who need it?

Talking about all that are Kate Maehr, executive director and CEO of the Greater Chicago Food Depository and Rahnee Patrick, the director of independent living at Access Living.
