GARY, Ind. (WLS) -- A woman and baby were killed Friday after authorities said a police pursuit led to a crash on I-80 in Gary, Indiana.

Investigators said Lake County sheriff's deputies tried to stop the car for speeding in downtown Gary. The driver then led police on a high-speed chase that ultimately ended in a fatal crash on I-80.

Investigators said the driver was speeding and weaving in between lanes when he lost control, hit a semi, spun across all lanes and collided with another tractor trailer around 11:32 a.m. in the westbound lanes near mile marker 5.7.

The impact of the crash ejected a 20-year-old woman from south suburban Matteson who was riding in the front passenger seat, investigators said.

She and an infant in a car seat were both pronounced dead on the scene, according to investigators. Their identities have not yet been released.
