The victim was identified as 79-year-old Cornelius Olive.

Family members say he was walking his granddaughter' dog when he was killed.

"It's sad he died doing something he did every day, which was walking my dog," said Kamarie Caldwell, granddaughter.

Caldwell was the one who found her grandfather, after hearing gunshots, in the street in a pool of blood.

"I'm a medical assistant, so my first thought was maybe I can save him," she said. "So, I went in the house and I grabbed a towel and I was telling the operating he was still breathing!"

Gary police named Tyree Gaines as a person of interest in the murder. They said he has emailed the city of Gary and other neighboring communities, and made threats over email. Police said they believe he is unstable, and is considered armed and dangerous.
