UNINCORPORATED ST. CHARLES TOWNSHIP, Ill. (WLS) -- The Kane County Sheriff's Office has released surveillance video of a hit-and-run that seriously injured a 72-year-old man in unincorporated St. Charles Township Monday afternoon.

In 25 years with the Kane County Sheriff's Department, Undersheriff Patrick Gengler said he has never seen a hit-and-run as brazen as this. Deputies responded to the intersection of Illinois Route 25 and Gilbert Street at about 4:15 p.m.

"Even if he wasn't on his phone, based on our video, he never even made an attempt to stop," Gengler said.

Security video from a business across the street shows a maroon Jeep plow into a 2020 3-wheeler Harley Davidson with a 72-year-old man on board, as if he wasn't even there.

Police have not named the victim, who was transported to Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin with life-threatening injuries.

The intersection of Illinois Route 25 and Gilbert Road is busy, but controlled. Vehicles whiz by regularly above the 40 mph speed limit and sometimes there are fender benders in the winter.

Gengler said the intersection is clearly marked and the weather was clear at the time of the crash.

Late Tuesday, the sheriff's office obtained what they believe is another photo of the maroon Jeep a mile north of the accident. Evidence of the force of the collision remains, with a large piece of motorcycle fiberglass in the grass, fresh chip marks in the concrete - and no skid marks.

Through sources, ABC7 reached out to the family, but they declined comment. Authorities are determined to help this family, which is why they released the accident video. They hope someone watching this report might know of a red Jeep vehicle with damage on its passenger side - and likely a flat tire.
