The crash happened just before 1:30 a.m. in St. Charles Township on Route 64 at Anderson Road.
The Kane County Sheriff's Office said a red 2007 Mercedes-Benz left the roadway for an unknown reason and crashed into a utility pole head-on.
Alexander Enskat, the 31-year-old driver, was pronounced dead.
The sheriff's office said speed does appear to have played a factor in the crash. When authorities arrived on the scene, airbags had been deployed and the driver appeared to be wearing a seatbelt.
Route 64 was temporarily closed between Mary Drive and Anderson Road.
