CHICAGO (WLS) -- The world-famous Lyric Opera of Chicago and Joffrey Ballet are collaborating for the first time to present a powerful stage experience.

The two groups, both based in Chicago, will jointly perform "Oprhee et Eurydice."

"The planets have to be aligned for a complex project of this sort to actually come together and to become real," said Anthony Freud, president and CEO of the Lyric Opera.

The opera is based on the Greek myth of Orpheus, who descends into Hades, calms the furies and thus delivering his dead wife back to the living. The opera is the French version.

The performances will begin Saturday and run through Oct. 15 at the Lyric of Chicago.
