Runners take off at the Midway Fly Away 5K

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Runners are making their way to Midway Airport in Chicago for an incredible race on the runway! The Midway Fly Away 5K (www.sochicago.org) is September 17, 2017 and features a 5K race, a mile-long run, and a kids race. Runners get up close to jumbo jets taking off and landing nearby. The race is now in its fifth year and benefits 7,500 athletes of Special Olympics Chicago. The fun-filled day features variety of pre-race activities, including raffles with amazing prizes, family activities such as face painting, balloon animals, and much more, will take place at the event hangar on the airfield. Kevin Magnuson, the president of Special Olympics Chicago, and Erin O'Donnell from the Chicago Department of Aviation, joined ABC 7 live from Midway Airport to talk about how the race will go a long way to helping athletes.
