National Museum of Mexican Art celebrates 30th anniversary

CHICAGO (WLS) -- For 30 years, the National Museum of Mexican Art has showcased 3,000 years of creativity on both sides of the border. To mark this milestone, the museum invites everyone to a new exhibition called Memoria Presente: An Artistic Journey. The exhibit features the work of 30 artists in a wide range of mediums, including both commissioned works and street art murals. You can see it for yourself for free now through August 13, 2017.

Since opening in 1987, the National Museum of Mexican Art has held 220 exhibitions. It now houses a 10,000-piece permanent collection. You can find the museum in the heart of Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood. Chief curator Cesáreo Moreno and Chicago artist Georgina Valverde both visited ABC 7 Eyewitness News to show some of the featured work now on display.
