Parents dropped off their kids at Onahan Elementary School, 6634 W. Raven St., where they would be taken to Taft High School for their school day. The students will be bused back to Onahan in the afternoon.
Onahan serves nearly 650 students in grades pre-k through 8th grade.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the Tuesday afternoon fire, which happened after classes were dismissed. Firefighters arrived around 5:45 p.m. to find the auditorium in flames.
Although the fire was contained, school officials said in the interest of safety, classes were held off campus.
Officials said despite the fire, the auditorium is still structurally sound. It's not clear if school will be held at Onahan on Thursday.
