AURORA, Ill. (WLS) -- A 22-year-old Geneva woman was killed early Monday after she was struck by possibly two vehicles, moments after abruptly getting out of an SUV in Aurora, police said.

At about 2:15 a.m., Benavides was with friends in a black Chevy Equinox headed to the hospital after she had become injured at a bar. The driver of the Equinox said that Benavides did not want to go to Mercy Hospital and got out of the vehicle on Orchard Road between Galena Boulevard and Illinois Avenue.

"She abruptly exited the car and then reportedly refused to get back in the vehicle," Aurora Police Lt. Jeff Wiencek

She was then struck by a dark-colored Subaru, and possibly another vehicle.

Minutes later, she was dead.

The Subaru driver stopped and was cited for failing to stop for the pedestrian. Early Monday, pieces of Benavides' clothing were scattered in the roadway.

The driver of the Equinox told ABC7 that she and Benavides had spent Sunday together in Aurora, and was joined by her boyfriend early Monday.

Benavides grew up in Aurora and had been living in Rockford until recently moving to Geneva, friends said.

Police continue to investigate. Police did not find surveillance cameras in the area that may help them determine what happened.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact the Aurora Police Department's Traffic Division 630-256-5330 or Crime Stoppers 630-892-1000.
