SUGAR GROVE, Ill. (WLS) -- A small plane crashed near Aurora Municipal Airport in west suburban Sugar GroveThursday morning, Aurora police said.[br /][br /]The crash occurred near the airport at 43W636 US 30. AN Aurora spokesperson said at about 7:10 a.m. the small training plane declared an emergency at about 5,000 feet in the air after its takeoff.[br /][Ads /][br /]][br /]The plane landed in an adjacent field and emergency responders were dispatched.[br /][br /]Two people, a student and a teacher, were on board the small plane when it went down, police said. Both passengers walked away from the crash without any injuries and refused medical treatment.[br /][Ads /][br /][media ID="5552189" /][br /][br /]"We're trying to find out exactly what happened when that aircraft took off and maybe what cased that mechanical failure that required the aircraft to return to the airport here, so that will all be under investigation and the NTSB will look into it as well as the FAA," said Paris Lewbel with the Aurora Police Department.[br /][br /]The small single engine plane sustained minor damage. The plane has been towed on to a lot on airport property.
