Police: 2 officers wounded from ricocheting bullet

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago police said two officers were wounded Monday night when bullet fragments from a shot fired at a vicious dog ricocheted and hit them.

Police said an officer was charged at by a vicious dog in the 3600-block of South Wolcott Avenue in McKinley Park, and fired at the dog. A bullet fragment ricocheted and hit two other officers on the scene.

One officer was struck in the leg, the other in the foot. Both are in good condition. One officer was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital to be looked at, and the other to Rush University Hospital.

Police said the incident was an accident. The dog did not survive.
