The crash occurred at about 1:10 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-80/94 near Calumet Avenue.
Police said a Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling westbound when it struck an attenuator and came to rest in the right lane of the interstate facing eastbound.
The Jeep was then struck head-on by a Volvo tractor trailer, killing the driver of the Jeep, who was the only occupant in the SUV.

The driver of the semi was not injured. Police initially said that it was a crash involving a wrong-way driver and later clarified that it was not.
