Seven people were shot at different locations throughout East Saint Louis on Sunday. Five of them died.
All of the victims are related to the teen girl, who is being charged as a juvenile. The St. Clair County State's Attorney's Office said it will request that her case, which includes charges of first-degree murder, be transferred to adult criminal court, according to a release from ISP.
The second suspect, 16-year-old Ja'ymier Davis of East Saint Louis, is charged as an adult.
Davis has been charged with five counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated battery, one count of aggravated vehicular hijacking, one count of dismembering a human body, and one count of unlawful use of a stolen firearm. He is being held at the St. Clair County Jail pending his first court appearance.
ISP said the investigation began when human remains were found at the Samuel Gompers Homes on Sunday. The victim was later identified as 49-year-old Cherie L. May of East St. Louis.
An investigation led to the identification of four other shooting victims at multiple locations in the city: 25-year-old Shania W. Thompson, 24-year-old Devin May, 21-year-old Quentin L. Thompson, and 74-year-old Patricia A. May.
The investigation also determined that two other local victims were injured in the shootings. They were transported to local hospitals.
