CHICAGO (WLS) -- Ever hand over your license to be scanned?

The FBI is investigating a major cyber threat hitting the dark web.

Independent journalist "Krebs on Security" first reported a site named "Nexus" is selling 153 million driver's license scans, allegedly stolen from a verification company used to scan IDs, IDScan.net, which is also investigating.

To protect yourself, freeze your credit across all three major bureaus, turn on multi-factor authentication on financial accounts and report suspicious activity at IdentityTheft.gov.
