ALS Walk for Life returns to Soldier Field

CHICAGO (WLS) -- One of the world's largest gatherings of ALS patients, their family, and their friends is coming back to Chicago for the 14th year. The ALS Walk for Life returns to Soldier Field on Sunday, September 27, 2015. The walk supports Chicago's independent leader in ALS: the Les Turner ALS Foundation. In 2014, the ALS Walk for Life broke records; with 7,000 participants raising $1.3 million.

The money raised through the Walk supports people currently living with ALS (PALS) and their families in the Chicagoland area through the Foundation's Home and Community Services and grant programs. It also supports the Les Turner ALS Research and Patient Center at Northwestern Medicine. ABC 7 is a proud sponsor of the ALS Walk for Life. Andrea Pauls Backman, Executive Director of the Les Turner ALS Foundation, joined ABC 7 Eyewitness News before the walk to talk about the importance of helping the ALS community.
