Man facing DUI, homicide charges in Stevenson Expressway crash near Bridgeport: ISP

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man is facing DUI and homicide charges in a deadly Stevenson Expressway crash on Chicago's Southwest Side, Illinois State Police said.



The crash happened Saturday at about 4:30 a.m. southbound Interstate 55 at Wentworth Avenue, police said. That's near the city's Bridgeport neighborhood.

Armando Gonzalez Vargas, 20 of Chicago, was arrested and charged in the crash.

Police said Gonzalez Vargas was driving a white GMC and crashed into the rear of an SUV, causing the GMC to run off the roadway and hit a concrete median barrier.



The passenger of the GMC died at the scene.

Gonzalez Vargas, was taken to an area hospital with injuries.

The driver and passenger of the SUV were also transported to an area hospital with injuries.

Gonzalez Vargas was released from the hospital and taken into custody. He is facing one count of reckless homicide and one count of aggravated DUI involved death.
