Police said the woman's body was found in an alley near West 54th Street and South Union Avenue in the Back of the Yards neighborhood just before 6:30 p.m.
Police said the body was "highly decomposed." The woman's name was not immediately released, but neighbors believe she has been missing for weeks.
Area One detectives are conducting a death investigation pending autopsy results.
Authorities did not immediately provide further information.
