Blue Island man accused of battering several women, police officer in city, Evanston: Chicago police

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 37-year-old Blue Island man has been accused of battering several people in Chicago and Evanston over the last few weeks, Chicago police said Friday.

Derek Rucker has been charged with aggravated battery of a transit employee or passenger, aggravated battery in a public place and aggravated battery of a peace officer in the incidents.



He was arrested just after 11 a.m. Thursday in the 100-block of East Grand Avenue after hitting a 44-year-old woman in the face, causing her to fall to the ground in the 500-block of North State Street, police said.

He's also charged in connection with other aggravated battery incidents, including on Wednesday in the 4600-block of North Broadway involving a 40-year-old woman; on Sept. 30 in the 1200-block of West Loyola Avenue involving a 23-year-old woman, on Sept. 30 in the 300-block of Ridge Avenue in Evanston involving an off-duty police officer; and on Sept. 21 in the 900-block of West Belmont Avenue involving a 27-year-old woman, police said.



Rucker was in court Friday.

He was ordered detained until his next court appearance next week.
