CHICAGO (WLS) -- Flames tore through the roof of a vacant South Side building early Sunday morning.

The Chicago Fire Department responded to the warehouse fire around 3 a.m. near East 25th Street and South Wabash Avenue in the city's Bronzeville neighborhood.

People who live nearby woke up to see that building, which is under construction, on fire.

"Through my blackout curtains, I seen orange, as if the sun was next to the curtain," one resident said. "When I opened it up, and seen the fire shoot up. Then, my wife woke up. We ran through the house to get our kids."

Video captured massive flames and heavy smoke billowing from the warehouse.

"I just woke up to them knocking on the door, banging on the door, trying to get everybody up out of here," another resident said. "I'm not sure what happened. All I know is the building next door to us, like, the whole building was on fire."

Firefighters used several hoses to battle the flames, which were extinguished just after 4 a.m. Crews were still on the scene putting out hot spots at 6 a.m.

No injuries have been reported. What started the fire was not immediately clear.
