Burr Ridge police said one of the stolen vehicles crashed and was found near Illinois Route 83 and Midway Drive in Willowbrook just after 3:45 a.m. The driver had allegedly exited it and entered a second vehicle, which was later found in the 7700-block of County Line Road.
Police then responded to a report of a suspicious person in the 15W700-block of South Frontage Road just before 6 a.m. That person was seen searching for or concealing something in nearby bushes before entering a vehicle and leaving the area, police said.
Officers were able to find and stop that vehicle, a rideshare, on County Line Road near Interstate 55. That's when the suspect became combative with responding officers, police said.
ABC7 cameras were on the scene when the suspect was eventually taken into custody around 6:45 a.m. Police said one officer was hospitalized for an arm and shoulder injury suffered during the arrest.
The suspect had a Glock handgun equipped with a machine gun conversion device and was transported to the Burr Ridge Police Department for processing, police said.
The driver of the vehicle the suspect was found in is a rideshare worker and was not involved in the incidents, police said.
Further information was not immediately available.
