CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man was convicted in the Noble Square shooting death of a Rauner College Prep student.

In January 2022, Caleb Westbrooks was shot and killed while walking to catch a bus in the 800-block of North Greenview Avenue.

Tremell D. Neloms was later charged with his murder.

Prosecutors at the time said that Neloms, a student at neighboring Golder College Prep, killed Westbrooks while attempting to rob him.

Three years after the murder, Neloms was convicted on counts of first-degree murder and attempted murder.

He was found not guilty on an additional count of murder, as well as one count of armed robbery with a firearm.

Neloms is due back in court on August 14 for post-trial motions.

At an impromptu vigil, his classmates at Rauner College Prep remembered Westbrooks as a light that shined bright.
