Mayor Thaddeus Jones issued a response Friday evening.
A former city employee sued Jones and Calumet City, alleging extortion.
Kenneth Jones, who was the director of the city's Emergency Services and Disaster Agency, claims the mayor started asking him for monthly payments to keep his job, then illegally fired him.
The mayor is denying those allegations.
Jones attorney released the following statement Friday night:
"Mayor Jones is disappointed to read these false allegations. Mayor Jones anticipates the quick dismissal of this frivolous lawsuit in court. The Mayor will continue to focus his efforts where they have always been and that is serving the people of Calumet City and improving the lives of all of his constituents."
