ATLANTA (WLS) -- A woman who lost her husband and suffered serious brain damage in a car crash forgave the woman who crashed into her car in court, hugging the woman as she was sentenced.

Police say Tamara Matthews lost control of her minivan and slammed into Sandra Walker and her husband on a Georgia road in 2011. Walker's husband died in the hospital, as well as Matthews' 16-year-old son.

Matthews pleaded guilty to misdemeanor counts of homicide by vehicle and failure to maintain lane. She was sentenced today to 36 months probation and 500 hours of community service, a sentence that Walker agrees with.

"I know she is going through as much pain as I am feeling. I wanted her to know that I forgive her for what she did," Walker said.
