CHICAGO (WLS) -- ABC7 Chicago reporter Tre Ward jumped out of a plane with the Army Golden Knights during Chicago Air & Water Show practice on Friday.

Ward went through training before his tandem jump with the Golden Knights.

He boarded the plane in Gary and took flight.

Ward was even able to take a quick catnap before jumping.

He fell from more than 12,000 feet up at about 130 miles per hour, with nothing but a smile and thrills.

The parachute released, and he slowly descended, while marveling at his hometown.

Ward successfully landed at North Avenue Beach, and even whipped out a cartwheel to celebrate.

Sgt. First Class Ryan Reis with the Golden Knights tried out Ward's job, too, by signing off.

The Chicago Air and Water Show takes place Saturday and Sunday along the lakefront from Fullerton Avenue to Oak Street, with North Avenue Beach serving as the show center from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

Headliners include the iconic U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and the U.S. Army Parachute Team Golden Knights.
